1 disconnect the battery drain the cooling system.

I forgot to show but the drivers side panel comes off the same as the passenger side. Trying to remove heater core cover in 1999 pontiac grand am gt ca emissions. Lift the grand am with an automobile jack. Yea the evaperator is in the same unit with the heater core.

Crawl under the pontiac and locate the heater hoses on the back firewall. To reinstall the heater core reverse the removal steps. Gagt newbie. So when you remove the unit to replace the heater core you are thaking the evaperator out also.

Remove the heater core securing brackets and or clamps. Remove the cable and or vacuum control lines if equipped. 01 20 2009 08 13 am 5. Place a jack stand under the car and raise it to the frame.

Remove the heater core. Remove the heater core bracket and screw. Remove the heater core case cover. Remove the heater coolant hoses.

Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing. Remove the drain tube from the heater housing by loosening the clamp with a screwdriver. 2 disconnect the heater hoses from under the hood plug the end of the heater core pipes so you dont get spills. Remove the access panels s or the split heater air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.

At the bottom of the radiator open the drain valve and drain the coolant to a level lower than the heater core. If the hoses are stuck try twisting them with pliers or cut them and replace. Lift the core from the case.
