Replaced mine in my 99 ram 2500. Follow along if you would like to know how we did it. Today we are replacing the heater core in my dodge ram 1500 off road edition. Pull the dash up and off the dodge ram.

Remove the screws and retainers that secure the heater core to the heater a c housing. Its a long process to replace but can be done. Directions are below in pdf file format adobe reader. Leave any questions comme.

Disconnect the heater core s electrical connector and remove the two bolts holding it to the firewall of the truck with the socket wrench. In order to replace the heater core you will need to remove the steering column instrument panel dash and the hvac housing. The blower motor forces air through the core and into the air duct system allowing temperature controls which enable defrost floor and front vent modes. Lower the steering column remove the instrument panel assembly remove the heater housing.

Position the retainers over the heater core tubes. Remove the two bolts from each side panel of the dash using the socket wrench. As it is quite heavy you may need to have another person assist you. Drain the coolant down recover the freon in the ac system and disconnect the lines and heater hoses.

Once you have the housing out you will unscrew it to separate the top and bottom halves in order to access the heater core this is about a 6 8hr job. Remove steering column and entire dash to reveal heater core passenger side floor area. The most common cause of heater core problems is neglect cooling systems need to be serviced on a regular. Lower the heater core into the heater a c housing.
