Many are switchable between 4 and 16 ohms and 8 ohms stereo.
16 ohm cabinet with 8 ohm head.
Mis matching when running a higher resistance for example.
A slight mismatch can provide a darker smoother tone with a little less output and attack.
Make sure the ohm setting on the amp is the same as the speakers or cabinet.
I accidentally came across the fact my cab was only 8ohm the other day as when i bought it i was assured that it was 16ohm.
If you connect a 16 ohm speaker to your 8 ohm output transformer the impedance as seen by the power tube plate increases and plate current decreases which can lengthen the lifespan of your power tubes especially in class a amps.
Vavle amp rule 2.
This decrease in plate current will decrease demands on the power transformer and it will run cooler.
The power will drop although you probably won t notice it too much as this combination will likely increase the mids in your tone.
The amp has less resistance lower ohms so the signal is stronger than what the cab is wired to accept potentially damaging your speakers.
Last time and only time i plugged in a head that had a lower impedance than my cab i had to buy 4 new speakers.
This response is a result of the amplifier running a bit cooler.
The jsx has two jacks in parallel for chaining while the marshall has a single jack.
Running a 16 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm amp output with this combination the voltage at the speaker output will rise while the current will almost halve.
The higher the number of ohms in a speaker or cabinet s rating the more resistance to the flow of power and less power will reach the speaker.
My amp head a peavey windsor has two speaker jacks at 16 ohms parallel with a switch for 4 8 16 ohms.
